Killer Kombo have been working in connection with Nugent Education Ltd since January 2007, these workshops are designed to encourage young people out there to enjoy music, encourage team work, confidence building and writing constructive lyrics and performing them. Killer Kombo have travelled all over the country and taught children of all ages different writing skills and techniques, helped them enjoy the joys of English Literacy through lyric writing and performing these lyrics in raps or MC’s. Some of the main subjects that the youngsters who take part in choose to write about are topics such as anti bullying, against knife crime, teenage life.
This lively, musical and energetic Rapping or MC workshops are a way of making Literacy and Poetry interesting to young people. In fact, writing and reciting Rap can make learning any subject fun. A rapping or MC session will involve the use of rhythm and rhyme, alliteration, metaphor and other techniques. Confidence is subtly developed, throughout, and we have been known to get even the shyest people performing in front of the class, or even the whole school. We have also taught Science and Geography through Rapping, with truly amazing results. Our ‘Rap for Revision’ workshops have been proven to improve exam results. We also provide 6 week, or 6 x 2hr session music production workshops. Children and young people get to write, recite, then record their own raps or songs onto a compilation CD that they get to keep. This is by far our most popular programme.
Nugent Education also provides other urban arts workshops that include graffiti art, DJ-ing (with top UK DJ’s), break dancing and street dancing. Also creative arts workshops such as crafts, animation, Japanese culture, African drumming, Samba drumming and drama.
